HBO Max is a premium subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) streaming service operated by Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) through its Home Box Office, Inc. subsidiary, relaunched under its original name on July 9, 2025 after operating as 'Max' from May 2023 to July 2025. The platform serves approximately 140 million paid subscribers worldwide as of mid-2026, offering content from HBO, Warner Bros., DC Studios, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, CNN, Discovery, and other brand libraries across 100+ markets. HBO Max is positioned as the third most-subscribed video-on-demand service globally (behind Amazon Prime Video and Netflix), distinguished by a premium, quality-over-volume editorial strategy and home to celebrated franchises including Game of Thrones, The Last of Us, The White Lotus, Euphoria, and House of the Dragon. Following WBD's approved merger with Paramount Skydance in April 2026, HBO Max is expected to eventually be integrated with Paramount+ into a combined streaming service pending regulatory completion.
