The Crying Boy

The Crying Boy is moving forward as a feature film adaptation of the 2024 Keenspot horror comic created by writer Niall O'Rourke and artist Rob Moran. Producer Carter Swan, whose recent credits include Zach Cregger's Resident Evil and HBO's The Last of Us, is developing the project with screenwriter Rona Mark attached to write the screenplay. The story centers on Nadia, a widow attempting to rebuild her life in Queens, New York following her husband's violent death. When her young son Samir becomes attached to a painting of a crying child found in their new apartment, the family discovers the canvas houses a malevolent entity that has preyed on children for millennia. The comic earned a Ringo Award nomination for Best Single Issue or Short Story and is currently in its third printing. The project is in early development with no production timeline yet announced.
