4,075 film and television productions are currently active across the Production List directory — 635 of them shooting right now and 1,665 in pre-production. Another 180 are scheduled to start filming within the next 90 days. 401 new productions were listed in the last 30 days, against 373 in the 30 days before that (+8%). Counted September 9, 2026 from 12,062 published listings.
Where they are shooting
Active productions by filming region. Regions are recorded as the production reports them, so this list mixes US states, Canadian provinces and English counties rather than normalising them into one scheme.

Every figure is a straight count of published listings in the Production List directory, run fresh each day. Nothing is modelled, estimated or adjusted. A production counts as active if its stage is development, pre-production, production or post-production; completed and cancelled projects are excluded. Month-over-month comparisons use rolling 30-day windows rather than calendar months, so the comparison is like-for-like whatever day you read this.
How a listing gets made in the first place — what is automated, what a person checks, and what we decline to claim — is set out in how we verify listings.
What this is not
- This is a count of what we list, not a census of the industry. A production that generates no public announcement never reaches us, so coverage is strongest in markets with an active trade press.
- Stage changes reach us on a lag. A project counted here as in pre-production may have started shooting since its page was last checked.
- Regions are as reported by the production, not normalised. A production filming in two places is counted in both.
- Figures we cannot stand behind are left out rather than caveated — union status, for example, is recorded for too few active listings to say anything about the industry.
