Angel Heart
Project Summary
Angel Heart returns to screens as an HBO drama series developed with A24, with Zac Efron attached to star and executive produce. Writer-showrunner Zach Baylin, creator of Netflix's Black Rabbit, is adapting William Hjortsberg's 1978 novel Falling Angel and its sequel Angel's Inferno into a one-hour drama that reimagines the story for contemporary New York. Jonathan van Tulleken, known for his work directing early episodes of FX's Emmy-winning Shōgun, will direct multiple episodes and executive produce. The package was initially assembled by Efron and A24, then brought to Baylin before landing at HBO. Production companies include Youngblood Pictures, with executive producers Kate Susman, Marc Toberoff, Max Hjortsberg, Lorca Hjortsberg, Alice P. Neuhauser, Joe Hipps for Cut To, Stuart Manashil, Kevin Turen, Harrison Kreiss, and Steven Schneider. The project marks Efron's third collaboration with A24 following The Iron Claw. The series is currently in development with no production start date announced.
