American Comfort
Project Summary
American Comfort is a comedy series in development at Apple TV+, inspired by the remarkable story of Melba Wilson and her legendary Harlem soul food restaurant. Kenya Barris writes and executive produces the project through his Khalabo Ink Society banner, with Oprah Winfrey executive producing via Harpo Entertainment and Aaron Kaplan's Kapital Entertainment also attached. Oscar and Emmy nominee Danielle Brooks will star as Melba and executive produce alongside Wilson herself, director Neema Barnette, and Aisha Summers-Burke for BET Studios, a label of CBS Studios where Barris is a founding principal partner. The series explores the journey of Melba's Restaurant from neighborhood eatery to soul food institution deeply embedded in Harlem's cultural fabric for over two decades. The project landed at Apple TV+ in a competitive situation and marks another collaboration between Winfrey and Brooks following The Color Purple.
