Project Summary

Danny McBride is set to direct a new G. I. Joe reboot for Paramount Pictures, marking his feature film directorial debut. McBride wrote the screenplay with his Righteous Gemstones collaborators Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri, drawing heavily from the 1980s Marvel Comics run. The project represents a grounded, suspense-driven approach rather than comedy, following Duke and a team of Joes as they infiltrate Springfield—a seemingly normal American town secretly populated by Cobra operatives. Paramount has made this a high priority following the underperformance of 2021's Snake Eyes. Production is targeting a 2027 start, with McBride already in discussions with actors for key roles. The film will be the first new mainline G. I. Joe feature since 2013's Retaliation.
