BurnTime

BurnTime is a six-episode limited series in development at Rugged Island Films, the recently launched production outfit of director Douglas Mackinnon. The series follows 35-year-old Kylie MacDonald, a newly trained paramedic working her first shift with Edinburgh's emergency services during the city's famed arts festival. Set over six consecutive night shifts, the show blends dark comedy with propulsive drama as Kylie races to save lives while a tragic episode from her past threatens to upend everything she's built. Mackinnon, known for directing Line of Duty, Good Omens, and Doctor Who, is presenting the project at Rome's MIA Market in October 2026, seeking international co-production partners and financing. Production is based in Edinburgh, Scotland, with the Edinburgh Festival serving as a central character in the story. The series takes its title from the chronic burnout afflicting UK emergency workers.
