The Apology

The Apology marks a significant two-season straight-to-series order at Netflix, bringing together A24 and Cut To in a thriller drama created by Joe Murtagh. Gwyneth Paltrow takes her first lead television role as Evelyn Amspoker, a mother whose son was murdered 18 years earlier. When a stranger suddenly appears and confesses to the killing, Evelyn and her husband Caleb finally see a path to justice — only to learn the killer may receive a reduced sentence, pushing them toward their own form of retribution. Oscar-winning Danish filmmaker Thomas Vinterberg will make his U. S. television directing debut on the project, bringing his acclaimed sensibility from films like Another Round and The Hunt. Murtagh, who created the BBC/Showtime psychological thriller The Woman in the Wall, serves as showrunner and writer. Executive producers include Paltrow, Vinterberg, Joe Hipps for Cut To, and Murtagh. Netflix acquired the project preemptively after competitive interest from multiple buyers. No production start date or casting beyond Paltrow has been announced.
