Project Summary
The Mist marks Mike Flanagan's fifth Stephen King collaboration, following Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep, The Life of Chuck, and his upcoming Carrie series for Prime Video. Warner Bros announced the project in February 2026, with Flanagan set to write, direct, and produce through his Red Room banner alongside Tyler Thompson and Spyglass' Gary Barber and Chris Stone. Alexandra Magistro will executive produce for Red Room. As of September 2026, Flanagan is actively writing the screenplay, expecting to turn in the script around Halloween. The director has emphasized his version will take a different approach from Frank Darabont's acclaimed 2007 adaptation, describing it as taking the story's building blocks apart to create something new. With Flanagan currently preparing to shoot his Exorcist sequel for a March 2027 release, The Mist will move into active pre-production once that project wraps. No cast, production schedule, or release date has been announced yet.
