Project Summary
A Speck in the Sea brings Jeremy Renner and Josh Brolin together for a survival thriller directed by Oscar-winning documentarian Orlando von Einsiedel. Jeff Pope, Oscar-nominated for Philomena, adapted the screenplay from the true story of John Aldridge, a Montauk lobster fisherman who in July 2013 fell from his boat into the Atlantic Ocean forty miles offshore in the dead of night. With his best friend and fishing partner Anthony Sosinski asleep below deck, Aldridge faced twelve hours alone at sea using every survival skill he could muster. Mark Bauch of One Day's Walk and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback are producing, with 193, a Legendary company, handling international sales at AFM. CAA Media Finance and WME Independent are jointly representing North American rights. The project marks von Einsiedel's narrative feature debut after winning an Oscar for the documentary short The White Helmets.
