Happy Old Year

Happy Old Year is in development as a Netflix series, based on the foundational 1982 Brazilian autobiography by Marcelo Rubens Paiva. The project is being produced by Amaia Filmes in partnership with O2 Filmes, the production company behind City of God. The series will adapt Paiva's irreverent and deeply personal account of the diving accident that left him quadriplegic at age 20, exploring his recovery and the universal themes of youth and resilience. Set in the 1980s, the adaptation aims to connect with both readers who grew up with the book and introduce the story to new generations. The announcement was made at the Paraty International Literary Festival in Rio de Janeiro state. Filming has not yet begun, with no cast, director, or production timeline announced.
