Antarctica
Project Summary
Antarctica follows the true story of American endurance athlete Colin O'Brady and British polar explorer Captain Louis Rudd, who in 2018 simultaneously attempted to become the first person to traverse Antarctica coast-to-coast without support. Danny Boyle is eyeing the survival drama as his next project after completing 28 Years Later and the upcoming Ink. The screenplay, written by frequent Boyle collaborator John Hodge, was developed at Searchlight Pictures. The project gained momentum in 2023 before being sidelined by the WGA strike; Boyle recently confirmed renewed interest in an IndieWire interview. The production represents a return to the survivalist themes Boyle explored in 127 Hours, dramatizing O'Brady's 54-day, 930-mile solo crossing through windchill, hidden crevasses, and extreme isolation as he raced Rudd to the finish. No production timeline has been announced.
