Untitled Lou Gehrig Biopic

Richard Linklater is returning to baseball with an untitled biographical film about New York Yankees legend Lou Gehrig, reuniting with Glen Powell after their collaborations on Everybody Wants Some! and Hit Man. Powell will portray the Hall of Fame first baseman known as 'The Iron Horse' for his then-record streak of 2,130 consecutive games. Simon Rich, writer of the forthcoming Artificial, is penning the screenplay. Saturday Night Live creator and lifelong Yankees fan Lorne Michaels will produce alongside Erin David through Broadway Video's first-look deal with Universal Pictures. Powell and Dan Cohen will also produce through Barnstorm's deal with the studio, while Linklater is in talks to produce through Detour Filmproduction. The film marks the first major theatrical treatment of Gehrig's story since Gary Cooper's Oscar-nominated performance in 1942's The Pride of the Yankees. No production start date has been set, as Powell is taking a break after a busy year of back-to-back projects.
