The Portrait of a Lady

The Portrait of a Lady returns to television for the first time in nearly 60 years, with a six-episode limited series now filming across the UK, Hungary, and Croatia. Nell Tiger Free leads the ensemble as Isabel Archer, with Gemma Arterton playing the elegant Madame Merle and Jim Sturgess as Gilbert Osmond. Bill Nighy and Miranda Richardson round out the principal cast as Mr. and Mrs. Touchett. The series is adapted by Rebecca Lenkiewicz and directed by Aisling Walsh, produced by Number 9 Films TV in partnership with Beta Film GmbH. Executive producers Stephen Woolley and Elizabeth Karlsen reunite with several actors from their film projects for this debut television production. The series will premiere on Masterpiece PBS in the US and Canada, with a UK rollout on BBC One and iPlayer. Fox Entertainment Global handles worldwide distribution, with a 2027 premiere expected.
