Untitled Tim Burton/Kazuo Ishiguro Project

Director Tim Burton is developing an untitled feature film from an original screenplay by Nobel Prize-winning author Kazuo Ishiguro, set in post-World War II Japan. The collaboration emerged from conversations at Burton's North London home, with Ishiguro writing the script on spec. The project marks Burton's first original film not based on pre-existing material since Corpse Bride in 2005, and represents a departure from his usual gothic aesthetic. Ishiguro has confirmed the film is "not a war film" but rather "a Tim Burton film" that's hard to pigeonhole genre-wise. The project currently has no distributor attached, with plans to package it with cast before taking it to market. Neither production timeline nor additional creative team members have been announced.
