Untitled Bill Shankly Series

A24 and Box To Box Films are developing a drama series about Liverpool FC's legendary manager Bill Shankly, with Jude Law attached to star in the title role and Jack Thorne writing. The project, which has been in development since late 2024, will chart Shankly's tenure from 1959 to 1974 as he transformed Liverpool from a Second Division club into a powerhouse that won three league titles, two FA Cups, and a UEFA Cup. Set against the backdrop of 1960s Liverpool during the city's music and cultural renaissance, the series aims to explore both the football club's journey and its deep connection to the city itself. Tom Werner, chairman of Liverpool FC since 2010, is involved as a producer and has described the show's ambitions as comparable to The Crown in scope. Thorne has completed the first two episodes, and the production team has begun conversations with broadcasters and streaming platforms. Filming will take place in Liverpool and at Anfield, with Shankly's granddaughter Karen Gill consulting to ensure historical accuracy.
