Ready Player Two

Ready Player Two is in early script development at Warner Bros. and Amblin Entertainment as the follow-up to Steven Spielberg's 2018 sci-fi adventure Ready Player One. Screenwriter Zak Penn, who co-wrote the original film with author Ernest Cline, confirmed in August 2026 that he is actively writing the screenplay based on Cline's 2020 novel of the same name. Spielberg will produce the sequel rather than direct, marking a shift from his role on the first film. The story picks up after Wade Watts wins control of the virtual-reality OASIS system, with the discovery of a new brain-computer interface triggering another global quest. No director, cast, or production timeline has been announced, and Warner Bros. has not yet officially greenlit the project for production.
