Project Summary

Ghost Rider is officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Ryan Gosling taking on the role of Johnny Blaze in a standalone feature announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. Shawn Levy, who directed Deadpool & Wolverine, will helm the project from a screenplay by Jonathan Tropper. The collaboration reunites the Gosling-Levy duo following their work on Star Wars: Starfighter. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed the long-rumored casting during the Hall H presentation, with Gosling himself taking the stage to express his enthusiasm for the character he's wanted to play for years. The Ghost Rider project marks Gosling's first superhero role and returns the Spirit of Vengeance to the big screen after Nicolas Cage portrayed the character in two Sony films. The film is targeting a 2028 theatrical release as part of Marvel's Phase Seven slate.
