Project Summary
Lonesome Dove is returning to television as a Netflix drama series from co-showrunners Zoe Kazan and Jeb Stuart, the creative team behind the streamer's upcoming East of Eden limited series. Based on Larry McMurtry's 1985 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, the Western follows retired Texas Rangers Gus McCrae and Woodrow Call as they embark on one final cattle drive from the Rio Grande to the untamed wilderness of Montana. The project received a straight-to-series order from Netflix in May 2026 after a competitive bidding situation. Teton Ridge Entertainment, an independent studio specializing in American West stories, holds the rights to the Lonesome Dove literary franchise and brought Kazan and Stuart aboard to write and develop the adaptation. Executive producers include Thomas Tull, Jillian Share, and Jen Gorton of Teton Ridge Entertainment, along with Jon Jashni, Diana Ossana, and Curtis McMurtry of the McMurtry Estate. Production details including start dates and filming locations have not yet been announced.
