Project Summary

La Manche is a fiction feature from Polish director Damian Kocur, known for Venice prize-winner Bread and Salt and Under the Volcano. Produced by Kijora Film with Anna Gawlita and Marta Szymanowska, the project has secured co-production partnerships with Germany's Oma Inge Film and France's Les Contes Modernes. The film follows a young protagonist from Warsaw who takes a job scouting locations and non-professional actors for a foreign production, traveling through small towns and villages along the Polish-Belarusian border. Kocur continues his signature approach of working with non-professional actors to examine contemporary Poland, challenging stereotypes about the country while exploring themes of internal polarization, the city-versus-countryside divide, and migration from a historical perspective. The project was presented at the Venice Production Bridge Gap-Financing Market in September 2026, where it is currently securing final financing.
