The project adapts the iconic 1968–1980 CBS series created by Leonard Freeman, which starred Jack Lord as Detective Captain Steve McGarrett leading a state police task force in Hawaii. Chris Bremner and Noah Oppenheim are writing the screenplay, with Guymon Casady producing alongside the Freeman estate. The film remains in early development with no production schedule announced. Cretton recently directed Spider-Man: Brand New Day and is also attached to direct a live-action Naruto film for Lionsgate.
