Backyard Sports: The Animated Series

Playground Productions announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 that it will develop Backyard Sports: The Animated Series, a 20-episode animated show based on the iconic video game franchise. The series follows the success of the Backyard Sports animated special that premiered in January 2026. Voice talent from that special returns, including Tiffany Haddish as Kiesha Phillips, Arturo Castro as Pablo Sanchez, Ego Nwodim, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Donald Faison, Ashleigh Crystal Hairston, Adam Pally, and Utkarsh Ambudkar. The project reunites the team from Playground Productions, led by CEO Lindsay Barnett, who acquired the Backyard Sports rights and has been reviving the franchise across gaming, animation, and other media since 2024. Animation will be handled by Lighthouse Studios, the studio behind Rick and Morty and Bob's Burgers.
