Roy Lee is a Korean-American film and television producer born March 23, 1969 in Brooklyn, New York, and the founder of Vertigo Entertainment (2001), which holds a first-look deal with Lionsgate for film and Sony Pictures Television for TV. He is one of Hollywood's most prolific producers, acclaimed for launching major horror franchises (The Ring, The Grudge, It), animated hits (The Lego Movie, How to Train Your Dragon), and prestige fare including Oscar-winning The Departed; in 2025 he produced or executive produced 11 released films — including A Minecraft Movie — earning THR's Producer of the Year honor. In 2020 he co-founded Spooky Pictures with Steven Schneider, a genre label under Vertigo focused on independent and low-budget horror, which in January 2026 acquired the V/H/S franchise from Studio71.
