Untitled Cable Guy Pilot

Hulu has ordered a comedy pilot inspired by the 1996 Jim Carrey film The Cable Guy, with Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. attached to star and executive produce. The series reunites the New Girl co-stars in roles that echo but reimagine the original film's premise for the streaming age. Johnson plays cable technician Chip Douglas, while Wayans Jr. portrays Steven Stephens, his childhood friend. Natasha Rothwell joins the cast as Gina, Steven's sister. The pilot is being co-written and co-run by Rob Rosell, Joe Piarulli, and Luan Thomas, with Sony Pictures Television producing. Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty from Original Film also executive produce. The project aims to honor the source material rather than remake it directly, similar to how the Fargo series approached the Coen Brothers film. As a pilot order, the project is in active development with casting underway.
