Project Summary
The Smile Clinic is heading into development as a 10-episode, 30-minute sitcom for Coupang Play, marking the first time an SNL international sketch has been adapted into a standalone series. The project emerged from SNL Korea Season 8, where the recurring digital short satirizing Korea's cosmetic dermatology business amassed over 17 million YouTube views. Lee Su-ji, Kim Won-hun, Gong Min-jeung, Kim Kyu-won, and Ji Ye-eun are all reprising their roles from the sketch. CP Entertainment is producing, with NBCUniversal Formats brokering the deal with the Korean streamer. The original sketch took aim at the office politics and pressures of Korea's booming K-beauty and cosmetic procedure industry, resonating widely with Korean audiences who recognized the cultural critique.
