The Emperor Adriano
Project Summary
The Emperor Adriano is a feature film biopic in early development from São Paulo-based Boutique Filmes and Paramount Pictures Brazil. The project adapts journalist Ulisses Neto's 2024 biography Adriano: My Greatest Fear, chronicling soccer legend Adriano Leite Ribeiro's journey from the amateur fields of Vila Cruzeiro to the pinnacle of world football. Producer Gustavo Mello, a partner at Boutique Filmes, is leading the production, which marks the company's first theatrical co-production with Paramount. The film will explore Adriano's immense pressure playing in Italy at age 19, his struggles with homesickness and family separation in Europe, the devastating loss of his father, and his battles with depression and alcohol abuse, culminating in his triumphant 2009 return to Flamengo. The project was shopped to investors at the May 2026 Cannes Film Festival and inaugurates a new intellectual property initiative at Boutique focused on Brazilian personalities.
