Project Summary
A24 has optioned the television rights to adapt Chad Harbach's The Art of Fielding and its sequel The Brightness for a series that will combine both novels. Sean Durkin will showrun and direct, bringing his indie-film sensibility to the material after his work on The Iron Claw and The Nest. Westward, the production company behind House of Cards and Severance, will produce the series. The first novel centers on a college baseball team and shortstop Henry Skrimshander, while The Brightness follows a group of young women at the same fictional Wisconsin college navigating friendship and contemporary culture wars. Durkin and Harbach will executive produce alongside Jordan Tappis and Beau Willimon, the co-founders of Westward. The project is in early development with no network, release window, or production timeline announced yet.
