Much Ado About Nothing

British writer-director Lakeem Rose is developing his feature debut with this modern reimagining of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. The 29-year-old filmmaker, who studied English at the University of Oxford, is relocating the romantic comedy to a post-conflict military setting. Rose's bold adaptation will retain Shakespeare's original Early Modern English dialogue paired with contemporary subtitles, while incorporating silent-cinema-inspired visual sequences into the modern military environment. Canadian producers Plato Fountidakis and Paul Rapovski are steering the project through Fast Motion Films, with international sales handled by Clever Creature. Hong Kong-based producer and casting director Mike Leeder of Red Packet Media joins the producing team. The development is being documented through Reinventing Shakespeare, an ongoing documentary series following Rose and his collaborators as they explore what Shakespeare can offer contemporary audiences.
