Looking for Sam

Looking for Sam is a feature-length docu-fiction hybrid from Venezuelan director Mariana Rondón, writer-director of the 2013 San Sebastian Golden Shell winner Bad Hair. The project reunites Sam Lange, who played the child Junior in Bad Hair, and actress Samantha Castillo, who played his mother—both of whom left Venezuela in the years following the film. Mexico's Martfilms has boarded as a production partner alongside Venezuela's Sudaca Films. The project is being presented at San Sebastian's Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum in September 2026, where it will seek additional financing and co-production partners. Sudaca Films has been invited to the Écritures Residency at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris for 2026-2027, starting in December, where the team will continue developing the screenplay and spend time with Lange, who currently lives in Paris.
