Project Summary
Gente marks Lucrecia Martel's return to fiction filmmaking following her documentary Nuestra Tierra (Our Land). The Argentine filmmaker confirmed in October 2026 that the screenplay is complete for this science-fiction feature, though she emphasized it will not be dystopian and will eschew conventional storytelling. The project has been in Martel's drawer since at least 2009, when she first mentioned it as a horror script, and has evolved significantly over the years. No shoot date, cast, or production companies have been announced. Given Martel's deliberate pace and the project's early stage, this represents a long-term development announcement rather than an imminent production.
