The Murder of Mr Moonlight

The Murder of Mr Moonlight is a five-part factual drama commissioned by RTÉ and acquired by the BBC. The series dramatizes the disappearance and murder of Bobby Ryan, a County Tipperary DJ known locally as Mr Moonlight, whose body was discovered in 2013 and whose case led to one of Ireland's longest murder trials. Written by Malcolm Campbell, Meadhbh McHugh, and Paul Howard, and directed by Daithaí Keane and Rachel Carey, the production is based on Catherine Fegan's book alongside extensive research and interviews. Brendan Coyle stars as Bobby Ryan, with Sinéad Keenan as Mary Lowry and Owen McDonnell as Patrick Quirke. The series is produced by Conker Pictures and Samson Films for RTÉ in association with the BBC, Screen Ireland, and Coimisiún na Meán, with Banijay Rights handling international distribution. Filming has largely wrapped, with locations around Navan, County Meath used to stand in for the County Tipperary setting. The series is expected to air on RTÉ and BBC in 2027.
