Project Summary

Last Weekend wrapped principal photography on October 15, 2026, after a tight 17-day shoot across Southern California and Mexico. Director Michael Rowe, whose debut Leap Year won the Camera d'Or at Cannes, wrote and directed this cross-border drama about an undocumented Mexican migrant worker reunited with his young daughter after a year-long custody battle. The film was produced by Rowe and Mariana Castro, with Mexican production company Paloma Negra coming aboard the project. Filming took place on location in San Ysidro and Barrio Logan, suburbs south of San Diego where migrant workers live, with interiors shot on a Mexico City soundstage. The cast is led by Fernando Cuatle and newcomer Rose Peraza Benítez, with Alejandra Cosío and Víctor Oliveira rounding out the ensemble. The film is currently in post-production, with Rowe seeking additional producing partners to help cover post-production costs.
