Project Summary
Jon Watts has been attached to direct the first film in a new Star Wars trilogy scripted by Simon Kinberg for Lucasfilm. The Spider-Man trilogy director returns to the Star Wars universe after co-creating the Disney+ series Skeleton Crew in 2024. Kinberg, who previously co-created Star Wars Rebels, has been developing the trilogy since late 2024, with the project positioned as a potential continuation of the Skywalker Saga. The film has not yet been greenlit by Disney, though trade reports indicate it is the furthest along in development after Star Wars: Starfighter. Early reports suggest production could begin as soon as 2027, with Daisy Ridley potentially returning as Rey in some capacity. Lucasfilm is producing, with Kinberg also serving as producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy.
