The Peasant

The Peasant marks A24's first production filmed entirely in India, wrapping principal photography in May 2026 after shooting across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Dev Patel returns to the director's chair for his second feature following Monkey Man, this time helming a period action-thriller he co-wrote with Will Dunn. Set in the 1300s, the film blends medieval knights with feudal India in what's been described as having shades of Braveheart and John Wick. Patel stars alongside Christian Friedel, Sebastian Bull, Saurabh Sachdeva, Anasuya Sengupta, and Vipin Sharma. The project is produced by Patel's Minor Realm banner, Thunder Road Pictures, and A24, with the studio holding global distribution rights. Originally developed from a 2023 Black List screenplay set in medieval Italy, Patel reimagined the story for an Indian setting. The film now heads into post-production, with producers eyeing franchise potential.
