Days of Thunder 2 is moving into pre-production at Paramount Pictures, with Tom Cruise set to reprise his role as Cole Trickle and produce alongside Jerry Bruckheimer. Jonathan Levine is in negotiations to direct the NASCAR racing sequel, following strong test screenings for his upcoming sports drama Mr. Irrelevant. Will Staples penned the screenplay for the project, which is intended to be Cruise's next production. The original 1990 film, directed by the late Tony Scott, grossed $157. 9 million worldwide and has built a dedicated following among racing fans. Production is expected to begin as early as fall 2026, with Paramount positioning the sequel as a potential legacy franchise play following the success of Top Gun: Maverick.
