Ruben
Project Summary
Ruben is a feature documentary currently in post-production that chronicles filmmaker Ruben Östlund's pursuit of an unprecedented third Palme d'Or. Directed by Sigge Eklund and produced by Peter Settman and Helena Sandermark for Stockholm Syndrome, the film has been in production since 2023, beginning shortly after Östlund returned from the Oscars where Triangle of Sadness received three nominations. The documentary follows Östlund through the making of his new film The Entertainment System Is Down, capturing behind-the-scenes footage from the Budapest shoot in early 2025 and featuring interviews with cast members including Keanu Reeves, Kirsten Dunst, and Daniel Brühl. The project is co-produced by Tiisch Film, Film i Väst, and SVT, with SF Studios handling distribution. The documentary explores the psychological pressure of artistic ambition as Östlund deals with doubt, obsession, and the creative process while attempting to achieve what no filmmaker has done before. Filming will conclude after The Entertainment System Is Down has its world premiere.
