Project Summary
Pokémon: Wild Card marks the franchise's return to theatrical animation after a seven-year gap since 2020's Secrets of the Jungle. The film is currently in production at Japanese animation studio CloverWorks, with Story Inc. handling planning and production. Director Katsuhiko Kitada leads the project, with character designs by Akemi Hayashi. Unlike previous Pokémon films, Wild Card focuses exclusively on the Pokémon Trading Card Game, following a player striving to become a champion alongside the Ghost/Fairy-type Pokémon Mimikyu. The film was announced during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco and is scheduled for theatrical release by Toho in Japan in 2027, with international distribution expected to follow.
