Mime

Mime is a supernatural horror film now in development at Sony's Screen Gems, with John David Washington attached to star and Nikyatu Jusu directing. Jusu made her feature debut with Nanny, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival—the first horror film to receive that honor. The screenplay was written by Stephen Herman, whose previous credits include Black Box. Producing the project are Matt Tolmach, who packaged the deal, and Scott Derrickson through his Crooked Highway banner, which has a first-look arrangement with Screen Gems. Washington is also producing alongside Camila Grove. While plot details remain largely under wraps, the story unfolds inside a New York City apartment complex during a heat wave-induced blackout. Screen Gems won the project after a competitive bidding war that included Amazon MGM Studios and Searchlight Pictures. The film is targeting a spring 2027 production start.
