Joe's Assignment is a Norwegian-Greek co-production currently in post-production, directed by Jens Lien and written by Per Schreiner, the creative team behind the cult dystopian comedy The Bothersome Man. The film stars Trond Fausa Aurvåg as Joe, an ambulance driver whose job is eliminated when self-driving vehicles take over. He's pulled into a government system designed to give unemployed people mandatory tasks to prevent passivity, but Joe's own assignment appears to have disappeared somewhere within the bureaucracy. His search for purpose takes him through increasingly strange encounters as he pursues love, friendship, and meaning in a world that no longer needs him to work. The production is backed by Einar Film Drama and Filmiki, with financing from the Norwegian Film Institute, Nordisk Film & TV Fond, NRK, Greek broadcaster ERT, and Alto Invest. Post-production is slated to complete in October 2026, with Nordic distribution handled by Scanbox/Ymer.
