Untitled Fred Astaire Biopic

Paul King's untitled Fred Astaire biopic is moving into active pre-production at Sony Pictures, with Tom Holland attached to star as the iconic dancer and performer. The project centers on Astaire's formative relationship with his sister Adele, following the siblings from their Midwestern vaudeville roots through Broadway and London's West End in the 1920s, before Fred's solo transition to Hollywood musicals. Lee Hall, who wrote Billy Elliot, is scripting the project, reuniting with Holland who performed in the Billy Elliot musical on the West End. Amy Pascal is producing alongside Rachael O'Conner, Ben Holden, and Josh Hyams. Dance rehearsals have begun, with Holland recently completing his first tap rehearsal in 15 years. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in January 2027, marking a significant step forward for the long-in-development project.
