Project Summary
Good People is a drama series in development at Universal Television, adapted from Natalie Baszile's novel Friends and Family. Marissa Jo Cerar is writing the adaptation, with Gina Prince-Bythewood set to direct the potential pilot. The executive producing team includes Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood through Undisputed Cinema, Debra Martin Chase via Martin Chase Productions, Mary J. Blige through Blue Butterfly Productions, and author Natalie Baszile. Set in Northern California, the series explores themes of interracial friendship, privilege, and allyship through the story of Babs, a successful self-made interior designer, and her old-money best friend Nora. Universal Television secured the rights in a competitive situation ahead of the novel's October 2026 release and is expected to take the project out to potential buyers soon.
