Project Summary
Set in the brutal summer of 1964, Othello, the first African American Chief of Police in Venice, Maryland, is sent to the warring town of Cyrus, Virginia to calm political unrest. However, once he lands there fresh off his engagement to the young Desdemona, he learns from his Sergeant Iago that his new wife has been cheating on him with his Lieutenant Michael Cassio. Deception, betrayal, and turbulence emerge in this 60-minute new adaptation and production of the classic Shakespeare tragedy that focuses on how unsolved resentment runs fatal in a changing turbulent time. Rehearsals and performances are scheduled for late May 2027 in San Diego, California.
