Project Summary
Deacon is a television drama series in development at Vancouver-based Front Street Pictures, backed by Blink49 Studios. The project is inspired by the extraordinary life of Zak Santiago—actor, Golden Gloves boxer, DJ, and permanent deacon in the Catholic Church. Jonathan Lloyd Walker, known for showrunning Netflix's Van Helsing and Amazon's House of David, will serve as showrunner. The series was created by Walker, actor and producer John Cassini, and Santiago himself. Set in East Vancouver, the fictional drama follows Santiago 'Santi' Luna as he navigates between a church, federal prison, boxing gym, community center, and nightclub DJ booth. The project was pitched to international buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival's inaugural Content Market in September. Front Street continues active development as it seeks production partners for the series.
