Project Summary

Behemoth Ann Holds a Seance is a documentary feature directed by Isidore Bethel, Vicki Bethel, and Daniel Hymanson. The film chronicles the deeply personal story of Vicki and her son Isidore as they organize a posthumous exhibition of Arthur Douglas Thayer's singular crochet artworks—complete with explorable digestive tracts, fantastical appendages, and detachable eyeballs—at the world's busiest airport in Atlanta. Atlanta-based Liaison Pictures, founded by John Henry Hinkel, has joined France's Because the Night Productions on the project, which is currently participating in Locarno's Match Me! networking platform seeking financing and co-production partners. The collaboration brings together Hinkel, who has a decades-long friendship with the Bethel family, and producer Anne-Laure Berteau. The project represents a personal exploration of grief and art-making, with filmmaking emerging as a remedy for the directors following Thayer's unexpected death.
