Project Summary
Top Gun 3 is in early development at Paramount Pictures and Skydance, following the announcement at CinemaCon 2026. Tom Cruise is returning to star as Captain Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell, reuniting with producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Screenwriter Ehren Kruger, who co-wrote Top Gun: Maverick, is penning the script. The project currently has no director attached, with original Maverick director Joseph Kosinski unavailable due to commitments to Miami Vice and other projects. Paramount is reportedly seeking a director who can execute the studio's vision under tight creative oversight, with candidates including Jon M. Chu, Joachim Rønning, and the duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. Christopher McQuarrie contributed to story development but is not expected to direct. The film is a top priority for the newly merged Paramount-Skydance entity, though no production timeline or shooting locations have been announced.
