Project Summary
Rehmat is a Punjabi-language feature film currently in post-production, directed by Gurvinder Singh and starring Naseeruddin Shah. The film is produced by Vahao Studio in India with French co-production from the newly launched Paris-based Pavo Films. Set in present-day Punjab, the story unfolds across three interconnected narratives that examine life in a region marked by drug crisis, cultural drift among younger generations, and the unresolved wounds of Partition. Shah plays Rashid Ali, a man who returns to Punjab after a lifetime in England, claiming to be God. The ensemble cast includes Suvinder Vicky, Mita Vashisht, Diya Kamboj, and Navjot Randhawa, with celebrated Punjabi poet Jaswant Zafar making his screen debut. Singh, whose previous films premiered at Venice and Cannes, has employed long takes and diegetic sound design, with shooting that took place in an actual Punjabi village. The film marks the debut co-production for Pavo Films, announced at the 2026 Cannes Film Market.
