Project Summary

Les Misérables is a large-scale French adaptation of Victor Hugo's 1862 novel, directed by Fred Cavayé and currently in production. The film began principal photography in July 2025 in Bordeaux, continuing through Bry-sur-Marne studios and Paris through November 2025. Vincent Lindon leads the cast as Jean Valjean, with Tahar Rahim as Inspector Javert, Noémie Merlant as Fantine, and Camille Cottin and Benjamin Lavernhe as the Thénardiers. The €40 million production is produced by Richard Grandpierre at Eskwad and Olivier Delbosc at Curiosa Films, in co-production with Studiocanal, TF1 Films Production, Canal+, and Netflix. Cavayé's approach emphasizes thriller dynamics inspired by The Fugitive, focusing on the cat-and-mouse pursuit between Valjean and Javert while retaining the novel's social and political themes. Studiocanal is handling theatrical distribution across its global territories and worldwide sales, with a French theatrical release targeted for fall 2026.
