Project Summary
Kingdom Hearts is an original anime series in development for Disney+ and Disney Channel, announced at D23 2026 in Anaheim. The project is being developed in partnership with video game creator Tetsuya Nomura and the creative team at Square Enix, ensuring direct creative continuity with the beloved game franchise. The series will reimagine the iconic adventure with a brand-new story that expands the Kingdom Hearts universe while celebrating fan-favorite characters. Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, is overseeing the project as it moves through early development. The series joins Disney+'s growing slate of original animated programming. No animation studio, production timeline, or voice cast has been announced yet, though the dual Disney Channel and Disney+ release strategy positions the series as accessible family entertainment. The Kingdom Hearts video game franchise, which debuted in 2002 as a collaboration between Disney and Square Enix, has shipped over 39 million units worldwide.
