If Love Should Die
Project Summary
If Love Should Die marks Mia Hansen-Løve's return to feature filmmaking with a period biopic of Mary Wollstonecraft, the pioneering feminist philosopher and author of A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. Renate Reinsve is set to star as Wollstonecraft, with the film tracing the writer's final twelve years as she lives according to Enlightenment ideals and becomes one of the era's most radical feminist thinkers. Hansen-Løve wrote and will direct the project, which is produced by Mubi alongside Caspian Films, Les Films Pelléas, Mer Film, Our Films, and Arte France Cinéma. Principal photography is scheduled for summer 2026 across multiple countries including the United Kingdom, France, Scandinavia, and Portugal. The production represents the third collaboration between Mubi and Hansen-Løve, following One Fine Morning and Bergman Island.
