G.I. Joe
Project Summary
Paramount Pictures has elevated Danny McBride from screenwriter to director on its untitled G. I. Joe reboot, marking his feature directorial debut. The Righteous Gemstones creator wrote the screenplay with longtime collaborators Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri, drawing heavily from Larry Hama's 1980s Marvel Comics run. McBride describes the project as a grounded suspense thriller centered on Duke and an ensemble of Joes, set primarily in Springfield—the comic-book town secretly operated by Cobra. The reboot is a high priority for the David Ellison–led studio as it develops major Hasbro IP. McBride's script was chosen over a competing treatment by Max Landis. Production is targeting a 2027 start, with McBride confirming Paramount is enthusiastic about the screenplay and that casting conversations are already underway.
